Fishing Pool 13 Mississippi River Illinois/Iowa

I learned my bass fishing skills on the Mighty Mississippi River on pool 13. Pool 13 is located between Illinois and Iowa. It runs from Lock 12 Bellevue Iowa to lock 13 Fulton Illinois. Most of the pool is shallow water 1 to 5 feet deep. The backwater areas are full of lily pads, floating vegetation,stumps and sand bars.The best overall lure I found for fishing this pool is spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Chart/white spinnerbaits work the best overall,but there are times when a Bomber Flat A Crankbait will wear the bass out.The flat a works really well early spring along rip rap,because you can pause the flat a and it will suspend .The bass will suck it in easy when you pause the lure so you need to pay close attention to your bait.When the vegetation takes over in the summer s plastic worm and snagproof mice and poppers really shine.
